Fraser - Entertainment Law's core is international entertainment business and legal affairs
in the television, film and creative industries.

With sophisticated US and international financing, co-production and distribution experience in-house and in the private practice sector, the firm is well-positioned to tackle and solve the most complex matters confronting producers and commissioners of first-class works.

A specialized practice, Fraser – Entertainment Law does not handle litigation, tax or bankruptcy. In North America and worldwide, the firm works with tax, accounting and other specialists on an as-required basis to address client needs.

fraserSteve Fraser formed Fraser – Entertainment Law in January 2003 after a decade of working in law firms and entertainment related organizations in Canada and the United States.  His practice embraces the fundamentals garnered from years of serving as independent in-house counsel to a long-standing group of production companies.

From a European pre-sale leading to a treaty co-production structure to a co-venture between a Canadian and US television producer, Steve has been engaged by a number of the largest producers in television programming.  On their behalf, he has worked on productions with commissioners including ABC, AMC, CBC, CBS, Corus, CTV, DirecTV, the Hallmark Channel, HBO, MTV, NBC and Syfy in North America.  On the non-scripted side, his projects have included commissions from across Europe or have aired or streamed on A&E, CNN, Discovery, History, Hulu, National Geographic, Netflix and the Smithsonian Channel.

As he appreciates the productions he works on will be viewed internationally, often involving more than one production company, Steve recognizes complexity is par for the course and enjoys the challenge. A lapsed musician with an ear for sound and sharp eye for rights clearances, Steve has acquired a breadth of experience that is rare among entertainment law practitioners.  In his years in practice, Steve’s clients have included broadcasters, cable networks, copyright collectives, feature and television writers and directors, multimedia artists, composers, performers and publishers.

Fluently bilingual in French and English, Steve is an active member of many industry and legal associations.  He is licensed to practice law in New York and California and is called to the bar of the Province of Ontario in Canada.
